Abrams Books and author, Jeff Kinney, called on National Experiential to design, fabricate and manage interactive, cross-country experiential tour for the publisher’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid titles. The tours needed to acknowledge super-fans and grow readership with exclusive access to special events, contests, and prizes. National Experiential sought to create an exciting and compelling campaign, custom designed to support author Jeff Kinney’s mission.
To celebrate the unveiling of the latest novel in The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series: The
Getaway; National Experiential deployed a one of a kind, cross-country book tour. Complete with custom fabrications and several exciting interactive experiences: life-sized games, contests, photo ops, social media integration, with brand ambassador guides and a deejay on hand to keep the party strong.
Joined by series cartoonist / producer / author, Jeff Kinney, and an eye-popping, over-sized, Greg Heffley story character at each location to sign books and pose for pictures, the two-week tour yielded thousands of impressions amongst young readers and their parents. Each venue was unique to the tour, making one-day-only stops. National Experiential worked within tight deadlines to assess the needs of each space and be up and live to greet excited crowds of series fanatics. Ticket presales were capped at 1000 visitors to each site, and the tour sold out in cities big and small with audiences traveling hours in some locations to get in line. This captivating experience engaged & excited young readers across the country. The kinetic energy of each space could have powered this tour for weeks on end.
Through the power of the latest 2017 Getaway Tour, Abrams Books: Diary of The Wimpy Kid titles forged a lasting bond with the reader and their love of reading and National Experiential became a respected partner not only with Abrams but with dozens of venues along the way.
